Finally up-to-date with post (4/6)

Today I heard crickets chirping from my MM OBT's cage. After some searching, it turns out that his last cricket, and a previous cricket have been hiding from both myself and the OBT. He has been seen out all day long today and seems to be trying to get the crickets from out behind his clay pot hide. He still hasn't made a noticeable sperm web.

The MF OBT doesn't appear to have moved in the past two days. I'm starting to worry about her. I thought I got her to eat a cricket, saw her grab it and heard a crunch. Seemed like a done deal to me. A few minutes later I checked in on her to see how she was doing with the circket and I saw it walking around in with her and her webbing alive!!! Maybe she gave it a dry bite or never bit it. I'm not sure what happened there, but it certinaly is strange.

Though I was finally able to get the fasciatum to feed on a cricket last night. But it still has yet to make any kind of burrow.

I fell asleep waiting for the MF rosea to finish eating to attempt another pairing last night. So I decided to try again this afternoon around 5pm. The female was NOT receptive and more aggressive. Pairing failed. Maybe this is a sign she is no gravid, or she still hurts from the last pairing. It was pretty rough, and seemed like the males pad was going to come out the other side of her abdomen, which was moving all around unlike the last pairings. There were also a few thrust, but I'm not sure who they came from. So I think I'm done pairing them together and we'll just wait and see if we get a sac.

GREAT NEWS TO END WITH

I just found out tonight, that someone who got versi slings from RobC from the same sac as I did, that his molted early this morning, and another member who also has a sling from the same sac is watching hers for a molt as well. So looks like there hunder strike is due to a up coming molt. I can hardly wait to see how big they get.

Post from the 5th evening records

Avic avic finally ate a cricket, now seems to only want food once a week, so I'll keep that up and see how it goes.

MM OBT has been out much more, was fed 1 cricket, I'm very happy he's eating again. Hopefully I'll see a sperm web here soon and then I'll be able to attempt to breed them as well.

Vagans and both OBT slings were fed crickets the same size as they are and had no problems taking them down and devouring them.

Vagans likes to stay outside it's burrow, but once I pick up the vial, it runs about half way in.

OBT sling 1 stays inside it's corner of a burrow, and likes to keep a web and coco fiber roof over him.

OBT sling 2 stays inside the burrow, but at the top with his legs poking out.

Fasciatum appears to be getting darker, it was given another cricket, but hadden't eaten.

Attempted to feed the versi's again, with no luck. I wish they would feed, or hurry up and molt.

Fed the female rosea 3 crickets, again snatched up 2 right away. Will attempt another pairing tonight.

Post from the 5th, daytime records

I decided to try a daytime pairing of the rosea. The female was receptive, I even saw the pad hooks on the male today. Looked like he got a few good ones in. Again the female was a bit more aggressive at the end of the pairing which lasted maybe 30 seconds. I put the male back, and while taking pics of the female, he climbed out and over into her enclosure again. I decided to let them go ahead and see what happened. The female gave a threat pose, and the male turned around and climbed back out.

MF OBT created lots of web at the bottom of it's enclosure. Looks to be working on a house/molt mat. Still didn't eat the cricket, so I removed it and will try again.

OBT sling 1 dedided to come down and make a burrow. I would have prefered it stay arboreal so I would be able to see it, but no luck, even though it's in a arboreal set up.

OBT sling 2 improved it's burrow and I can't even see it anymore.

B vagans sling also improved it's burrow.

C fasciatum had no change, no feeding and no burrow.

Post from the 4th

The avic still refuses food. Maybe the roach she had before was bigger then I thought. She was seen feeding on it for what seemed like a very long time. I'll offer her food again in a couple days.

Fed my MM OBT, and he was seen out well into the afternoon. Normally he goes in his hide before it gets light out and is in there all day long. I also put a bit of female OBT webbing in different places in his enclosure, so he would know a female is near and hopefully encourage him to make a sperm web.

MF OBT made a little webbing, she has been in the corner, on the top of her enclosure all day long. Also she did not eat. Maybe she is just overly stressed from shipping still, I'll give her another night with the cricket.

NOTE: For now I'll try to refer to the larger OBT sling as OBT sling 1 and the smaller as OBT sling 2.

OBT sling 1 has been on top of it's enclosure all day as well. Although I did get it to eat one cricket so it seems to be settling in.

OBT sling 2 decided to burrow and I also got it to eat one cricket. I also decided to give it more coco fiber so it could burrow more, which it was please with and quickly made a better burrow.

B vagans sling ate two crickets the same size of it. It appeared to be trying to dig a burrow as well. So I also gave it more substrate to burrow in.

C fasciatum sling has refused a cricket that ended up moltin in with the sling, I first thought it was the sling who had molted. I decided to remove the cricket and gave it a couple fruit flies. A few hours later it still had not eaten. Also today, I updraged it's vial. The old one was one it was shipped in and just seemed too small, and didn't seem like it would have room to molt if it did so. I also put plently of substrate in with it, and no signs of burrowing yet.

MM rosea has been inside his clay hide all day after mating with the female. I'll try another pairing again tonight after she's been fed.

MF rosea seems like her normal self, but was a bit aggressive at the end of pairing with the male. Hopefully I'll get a nice big sac. I had fed her 3 circkets prior to mating, two she gobbled up right away and the other she snaged when she finished with the first two.

Both versi slings have been refusing food, and webbing a bit more as well. Maybe they are getting ready for a molt, I sure hope so.

Well that's all the T pics I got for now. Will get some up of the new guys soon.

New T's and a little romance.

Well I was supposed to get in 2 OBT slings, a fasciatum sling, a vegan sling, and MF OBT on Tuesday. Well they got lost in the mail, and decided to show up Thursday. They were packed in great, and the heat pack was still working a bit when I finally got them. But both myself and franklin(the guy I got them from at trarantula.us) were worried about the fasciatum.

The vegans was the 1st to be unpacked, and it was fine, crawling around and all. Next came to two OBT slings. One needed to be replaced before shipping because it molted, So they are two different sizes, looks to be 1 molt behind. They were OK, but took some coaxing to get them to come out of their vials.

Finally the fasciatum, I opened up get vial, and took out the paper towel on the end, and she had her abdomen high in the air. But she wasn't moving at all and was in a half death curl. While looking at her she moved a leg and I knew she was still alive. So I took a tupperware, and a damp paper towel, put it inside, and put her on top. Then put her in a warm dark place. Checked in on her 30 min later, and no change at all. Checked on her 1 1/2 hours later, and she was GONE. No where to be seen and no on the paper towel. So I knew she was alive and mobile. Looked in the paper towel and there she was. So I decided to leave her in there for another hour to make sure she was OK. Then I took her out and put her in her own little vial, She is so small, she looks like a fat tick.

Lastly came the 5" OBT female. I got her out of her vial, and into her enclosure with no problems at all, She was very sluggish and tooked a bit of coaxing as well to get to move off the paper towel. Later when she was checked on she was doing fine. I also took a few bits of webbing from the female OBT and put it in the males enclosure for him to find so he knows a lady is present, and to let him know he needs to make a sperm web. I don't think I've ever seen him make one/the remains of one.

After everyone had several hours to recover from their extended journey I gave everyone something to eat. Later when checked on the only two to have eaten were the smallest OBT sling, and the vegans. The vegans took down a cricket the same size of it. It slurped it up much faster then the OBT who is 2-3 X bigger then the vegans who had a cricket of the same size. So I decided to see if it wanted another, and it sure did. Hopefully in the morning I'll find that all the new arrivals have eaten.

Well I had fed my MF rosea for 3 days, and decided since the MM made a fresh sperm web, and was moving all about in his enclosure tonight to go ahead and try to mate them. So I opened up their lids, the male went over into the females enclosure, and got her hooked. I'm pretty sure he got atleast 1 good insert. It only lasted a couple minutes and she pushed him back and they were parted, she gave a threat pose, after he was already gone, and I wasn't doing anything with her. But before I could get the lid on my MM, he was up and over into her enclosure again. She did lower her pose a bit, then he came down more onto her hide, but she raised up again and he turned around and went home. So tomorrow I'll try again. I got one pic of the threat pose, but it was on my cell because the camera was out in the car. So hopefully I'll get a sac from this female soon.

I know I've got a lot of pictures I've been saying I'll post. But life just isn't allowing it right now. So pleast be patient and I'll get them up ASAP.

Also I've been looking for a blue fang for the longest time. Then finally someone post about a 2" female and I snatched her up, Sending out payment the beginning on next week and she will be shipped the following weekend. Then another post about a blue fang, but it's only .5". Then on another forum, one person post their blue fangs are in second instar, and the person they are teamed up with just opened a sac full of 1st instar blue fangs. I couldn't find any, and now they are all over the place. So I can keep my options open. I think I want to get 2-3 slings to go along with the 2" female.

Well it's 3am and I gotta get some sleep. So I'm outta here, and hopefully an update tomorrow too.

MIA

Well I've just been so busy the past couple days. I haven't had much time to make/take note of observations. Also was trying to track down a box full of T's for a couple days. So here's what I got from the other day...

The roach nymph that I gave to my avic avic fell into the water dish and it seemed to be dead. I decided to put it back on the leaf of the plant any way, and when I came back in to check, she was seen eating it and several hours later was still holding onto it.

At about 9 am the other day, my MM rosea was seen making himself a new sperm web inside his clay pot hide that he never uses. I was able to get a couple pics of this before I had to leave for work. When I came back later that day, he was finished using his sperm web, but again didn't take it down, and it is still standing today.

I then decided to go ahead and see if my MF rosea would eat. It was only 1 day shy of the 2 week post molt mark. So I gave her a nice big roach, but it was later found in the water dish on it's back. I took it out and let it run around in there. When I later check in on her, she was feeding on the roach. She took another roach the following night as well, and tonight she took 2 crickets at the same time.

I was also supposed to get a shipment on T's in that I posted about earlier on Tuesday, but they never came. The tracking status wasn't updated online, and numerous called to the PO were useless because they were only entering the tracking number online like I was. Hoped they would come the following morning.
